Visit to the Fire Station

On Tuesday Panmure Bridge School walked up to the Mt Wellington Fire Station. When we first arrived there, we asked questions. We learnt that if you call an ambulance there is a fair chance a fire truck might show up before an ambulance, but that is okay because they are first responders and know what to do. We then went outside look what things a fire truck has. They explained to us that when people are stuck in vehicles, the firemen cut/destroy the vehicle to get the person out. One thing that I learnt was that you should always have fire alarms in you house.

Fire Station Summary

I have created a DLO explaining how the fire service helps our community with my group: Tai, Sa Kae, Calvin and Ma'ata. The first thing we did write down 20 important words then choose 6 from the 20 words. The last thing we did was make a few sentences using the 6 most important words that explains how the fire service helps our community.

Summarising - Navigating Novels

In reading we have been reading novels. The novel my partner (Oh Hsen) and I are reading right now is called One Wheel Drive. We have made a summary of a chapter (3) we have read. We first typed in 20 important words then we took the 6 most important words from the 20 we typed in. The last thing we did was write a 25 word summary using the 6 most important word. We have highlighted the 6 words in the summary.

Police Squad Visit

Today the whole of Panmure Bridge School got to see a helicopter land in our field. We managed to see the helicopter land in our top field. The helicopters name was The Eagle. They said that there were only two helicopters in New Zealand. It was really windy when it landed. Our whole school went around it and got to see the outside of the helicopter. We then asked the police some questions. The next thing we got to see was the police dog. The police dog we met was name Kahu. Today I had lots of fun learning how police help us in our community.

Bald Eagles Adaptation

In LS2 we have been learning about adaptions of an animal. I chose an animal that starts with the first letter of my name. I chose to pick a Bald Eagle. I found very interesting that a Bald Eagle has 4 times a human eyesight. I have had really fun finding about an Eagles Adaptation.

Manaiakalani Film Festival

Yesterday Panmure Bridge School went to Sylvia Park Hoyts to watch movies created by schools in the Manaiakalani cluster. Our school went early in the morning but since our bus driver was late we missed our session. We then booked another session during the day. The movies that were shown there were only from Pt England School and Tamaki Primary. Although it was just films from those school I really had fun watching them. When we came back to school went onto the Manaiakalani Website to find the videos from the other schools.

Badminton - KiwiSport

This week for badminton we have been practising our forehand grip and our backhand grip. To improve our grips we were doing rally's. My partner was Oh Hsen  and the highest we managed to get was 15. The grip I find harder is the backhand because I sort of have to twist my wrist. I had a lot of fun at kiwisport and I am looking forward to improving more in Badminton, for our next session.

Three Ways to Keep Safe From Fireworks

LS2 and LS1 have talked out about the past of Guy Fawkes. We then got into groups of four and have been asking questions to each other. Since Guy Fawkes day is coming up soon, in our groups we have come up with three ways of how to keep safe from fireworks. One thing we did not include in our DLO is keeping animals/pets away from fireworks, especially dogs because they are very scared of the noises the fireworks make when they go off.

My Explanation

How Children Learn at School

Have you ever wondered how children learn? In this explanation we are explaining; how children listen and watch, how children agree and disagree with each other and how children have their own opinion and questions.

Children listen and watch their friends to learn. Firstly children (watch) look at their friend for an example. Secondly they listen, for an example from the teacher or friends.

Children have an opinion and also ask questions. When it’s reading children have a opinion of their book that they are reading. Sometimes when reading a book they have questions about it.

Children give feedback and feedforward to each other, they also talk to each other this is a learning conversation. Feedback and feedforward is one of the main things that children learn to do in reading a writing.

Children learn in many different ways. The point of this explanation was to give examples of the learning that children do.

For this task we were working in partners to write an explanation. Some of the great feedback and feed forward they were; Very clear message and use a bit more punctuation. I really enjoyed this task and revisiting a structure of a explanation.

Using Screencatify

Last week LS2 got to learn about how to create a screen cast with Mrs Grant. We firstly made our scripts and made sure we had all our tabs that are needed open. Next we clicked on the screencastify extension and clicked record. I had to make voice really clear and easy to hear. I think the screencastify extension is really easy to use.
