Our task was to research a country and explain how they celebrate Christmas.  The country that we were researching was Germany. We were researching the traditions, food and etc. I learnt that in Germany kids place nice and clean boots in front of their door so St Nicolas (Santa) can visit them and leave a small gift. St Nicolas doesn't really come, its just a family member dressed as Santa. I found that Santa's name is really interesting because it's hard to read.

Visit to the Fire Station

On Tuesday Panmure Bridge School walked up to the Mt Wellington Fire Station. When we first arrived there, we asked questions. We learnt that if you call an ambulance there is a fair chance a fire truck might show up before an ambulance, but that is okay because they are first responders and know what to do. We then went outside look what things a fire truck has. They explained to us that when people are stuck in vehicles, the firemen cut/destroy the vehicle to get the person out. One thing that I learnt was that you should always have fire alarms in you house.

Fire Station Summary

I have created a DLO explaining how the fire service helps our community with my group: Tai, Sa Kae, Calvin and Ma'ata. The first thing we did write down 20 important words then choose 6 from the 20 words. The last thing we did was make a few sentences using the 6 most important words that explains how the fire service helps our community.

They said that there were only two helicopters in New Zealand. It was really windy when it landed. Our whole school went around it and got to see the outside of the helicopter. We then asked the police some questions. The next thing we got to see was the police dog. The police dog we met was name Kahu. Today I had lots of fun learning how police help us in our community.

The movies that were shown there were only from Pt England School and Tamaki Primary. Although it was just films from those school I really had fun watching them. When we came back to school went onto the Manaiakalani Website to find the videos from the other schools.

Since Guy Fawkes day is coming up soon, in our groups we have come up with three ways of how to keep safe from fireworks. One thing we did not include in our DLO is keeping animals/pets away from fireworks, especially dogs because they are very scared of the noises the fireworks make when they go off.

My Explanation

How Children Learn at School

Have you ever wondered how children learn? In this explanation we are explaining; how children listen and watch, how children agree and disagree with each other and how children have their own opinion and questions.

Children listen and watch their friends to learn. Firstly children (watch) look at their friend for an example. Secondly they listen, for an example from the teacher or friends.

Children have an opinion and also ask questions. When it’s reading children have a opinion of their book that they are reading. Sometimes when reading a book they have questions about it.

Children give feedback and feedforward to each other, they also talk to each other this is a learning conversation. Feedback and feedforward is one of the main things that children learn to do in reading a writing.

Children learn in many different ways. The point of this explanation was to give examples of the learning that children do.

For this task we were working in partners to write an explanation. Some of the great feedback and feed forward they were; Very clear message and use a bit more punctuation. I really enjoyed this task and revisiting a structure of a explanation.

Using Screencatify

Last week LS2 got to learn about how to create a screen cast with Mrs Grant. We firstly made our scripts and made sure we had all our tabs that are needed open. Next we clicked on the screencastify extension and clicked record. I had to make voice really clear and easy to hear. I think the screencastify extension is really easy to use.

Our third game was against Glen Innes this was a really close game but they won 12 -10. I thought this game was really awesome I was running on the side line and no one got me. Our last game was against Tamaki Primary. As soon as the game started the scored a try. During the whole game we started to give up, I think that this day was really awesome because we all were trying our best.

PBS Holiday Blogging challenge - Activity 2 Day 1

For this activity we had to say what's the minimum height for the Stratosphere is, on this site http://rainbowsend.co.nz/rides/categories/thrill-rides/stratosfear it says that the Stratosphere has a very extreme height and the less extreme height restriction. The very extreme height restriction is about 150cm and the less extreme restriction height is about 130cm.

Then we had to say why there was a height restriction? I think that there's is a height restriction because the belt might be loose and you will fall of.

We had to tap the ball with our hands and try to get it in the goals. The last activity we did was netball, but there was a twist. We had to make the ball touch the grass before we pass. The game I enjoyed most was tap soccer.

I had fun doing these activities in the Winter Learning Journey, I had completed all of them but one. There were six top bloggers from our school they were, Daniel and Oh Hsen who came first, AJ and Alex who came second and Ofa and I came third. I can't wait to take part in the Summer Learning Journey. I would like to say thank you to Rachel and her team for blogging with us during the holidays.
